APOE4 gene may be evidence of strong carnivorous pressure on certain populations.
The APOE4 gene is involved in the metabolism of fat and cholesterol in addition to LDL receptor interactions. It underwent strong selective pressure as evidenced by 15 percent of the world’s population having it today and up to 40-50 percent in certain populations . When eating a highly carnivorous diet—which could have a higher pathogen burden—APOE4 may help us retain cognitive functions .
