Bubalus grovesi

Description

Bubalus grovesi, or Grove's Dwarf Buffalo, was a diminutive species of water buffalo endemic to southern Sulawesi. Weighing around 117 kilograms, it exhibited a significant size reduction—approximately 90%—compared to typical water buffalo species. This dwarfism is characteristic of island species, likely an evolutionary response to limited resources and lack of predators. Its closest living relatives are the anoas, which are also native to Sulawesi.
