Insulin Resistance from a Low Carbohydrate, High Fat Diet Perspective
Westman, Eric C.; Yancy, William S.; Haub, Mark D.; Volek, Jeff S.
Abstract:
Recent research suggests that a low-carbohydrate, ketogenic diet is effective for the treatment of obesity.18-22 A consideration of the physiology of low carbohydrate dieting leads to a different perspective of insulin resistance, suggesting that insulin resistance could be treated by reducing glucose appearance and cellular influx, rather than by increasing glucose disposal and cellular influx. Further research should consider a reduction in dietary carbohydrate as a strategy to treat insulin resistance. © Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.
